At our recent Diva Day Christmas Party we had an ugly sweater contest. It didn't have to be ugly, but it did have to use the Cable Knit Dynamic Embossing folder item 143537 found on page 13 of the Holiday 2016 catalog.
I didn't want to do the typical ugly sweater with pompoms or sequins or other manner of holiday goodies people deem ugly on their sweaters. Instead I thought, what other kinds of sweaters are there? My first thought went to fisherman sweater. How can you not love a vanilla/ivory wool sweater from Ireland? My mother knit one when I was in high school. I wore it a lot. Then it got lost for decades, and was recently found when we were cleaning up some boxes. It hangs in my closet now. Would love to lose enough weight to wear it again. I was a stick with a chest when I wore it back then. She did a beautiful job on it and it was one of the last things she knit. She loved knitting of all the crafts, the most. She had arthritis in her wrists and she just couldn't do it any more.
First, my fisherman's sweater.
I chose Very Vanilla as the sweater color and mounted it on navy, to represent the classic navy pea coat worn by the local Irish fishermen. The striped stick is supposed to be a fishing pole. I do not own a fishing pole stamp, and the starlight mint looking round thing is the reel for the rod. The fish is from Bear Hugs on page 107 of the 2016-17 Annual Catalog. I colored him with the new watercolor pencils.
To make the neck of the sweater I scored at every 1/8 inch score mark on the Simply Scored.
I have forgotten where the greeting came from, but it is a current set. If I can name it I will update the post.

This sweater could qualify as an ugly sweater. Its an old mans sweater. You know the kind, worn for decades, stains, tears, replaced buttons, but they won't give it up for something nice and new because of the memories and its broken in in the right places? I bet you pictured something your dad wore, or still wears. My dad certainly had one. And they always seem to be, as my mom called it, old man brown. Not tan, not dark brown, not beige, just brown!
I did sponge over the sweater to give it the stained, lived in look. I added a front button placket and a pocked for tissues. See? I even added a mismatched misplaced button. And I put the sweater on a dapper denim card base, because they often wear old broken in jeans.
It was a super fun challenge. Again, I tried to think outside of the box of what i have seen on Pinterest using the cable folder. There is still time to place your order for the folder before the catalog ends on January 3rd.
