Every season, meaning end of spring, when graduation rolls around, I need at least a half dozen graduation cards. I need a lot more on the years corresponding to my own children graduation, for all the friends.
I had an idea in my mind for at least a month now, of wanting to use the Large Letter Framelits. Originally, the in my head idea, called for having an open space behind the letters, creating a window. But when I was cruising past my stamps the other day, the Confetti Celebrations stamp caught my eye and I wanted to include that stamp set. Honestly, this stamp set. I keep coming back to it. It is not very exciting looking like some stamp sets just scream at you to buy and use them. But this stamp set has such versatility for so many occasions, I do use it quite often, and encourage you to purchase it. It is just handy to have on hand.
So when I sat down to make the card, I dropped the window idea and thought, I need some DSP designer series paper for the card. But I have none that would work. I looked at the Confetti stamp set and set about making my own! Crushed Curry for the Hooray and Silver for the stars.
You can see I stamped diagonally. Yes, I used a 12x12 sheet knowing ahead of time I needed 6 layers and quite frankly, I am running dangerously low on white cardstock in the standard size. And black too.
I figured by stamping in a diagonal would look pretty okay once it was cut up. In other words, it is a a repeating pattern, not random, but because I stamped it on the diagonal, It won't look so precise and organized as some patterns on paper. I wanted it do be a little freer looking.
In the nearly 12 years I have been on demonstrator, this is probably the first year I have made my own DSP, and this is the 3rd or fourth time this year! Why I didn't all those year, I have no idea. I am having lots of fun with it now!
I like using Crushed Curry as a gold colored substitute, so I knew at the outset of this card, curry and black and white would be used. And I wanted to include a little gold and silver, because it is a graduation celebration. I didn't get the gold fit in there, but the curry proved to be a good substitute. I do like the tiny pop of silver on the paper.
I added the silver foil balloon at the end because it needed a pop of fun and I left the tail quite long, to add even further to the modern fun look of the card. Not every item on a card needs to be contained to within the confines of the 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card base!
