This photo was taking a while ago, and there have been some changes since it was photographed. Essentially the same idea remains. The cat still rests on my table a lot of the time, and so on.
An accountability, business building group I am a member of, had a challenge this past summer, summer of 2024, to get our creative spaces organized. Mine is "organized", for the most part, but I have a few areas that needed addressing. And I note that in a document I am sharing with you. I am still purging and rearranging. I feel that is a constant with crafters, as what we use, what we need, and as new products become available, that will always be changing.
My best advice is figure out a framework of organization. I love my Ikea Kallax units. Very much so because they are uniform storage and it is easy to find inserts for them. Stamp N Storage, a Hutchinson Minnesota company, makes wood inserts for them, for crafting, but I can think beyond that. They just make good organizational sense.
Some people like found and repurposed items to organize. I look at that as a square peg round hole. I did that for many years of my craft journey. It works, but it left me frustrated and often not wanted to put my stuff away. It really was just "corralling like items". It really wasn't organized. Just "binned" as the Brits might say.
It was in 2020 when I could finally afford my much beloved Ikea Kallax units that I really started to feel organized. It was take more time and money before I would be able to afford the Stamp N Storage wood units (paper holders, punch holders, markers, and more). I still do not have all the units I want. I just need to make the hour drive to go purchase them. I know that makes many people jealous that I live to close. Mary & Brett Haugen, that started Stamp N Storage, are just the nicest people.
Settle in, the document I am going to share with you, is long. It is not meant to be printed. It is 46 pages long. It is meant as a read and a reference. Plus by printing it, you will not have the links that the PDF has in it. I linked several products to help you on your own organizational journey.
It is also found under my TOOLBOX tab for future reference.
Fair warning, the pictures are not magazine glossy, they are rough, and dark and messy. They are not how those areas usually look. I ran around a few days just snapping pictures to compile for this document. It is a resource, not a high end glossy magazine with a professional photo shoot. It is functional. It is real. And I hope you find it helpful and inspirational.
Thanks for reading!
