What's a celebration without cake! This cake was modeled after one that Carrie Cudney did at her candy presentation at Convention this summer. I am so pleased with it. It is plenty sturdy. Trust me. This cake has logged tons of miles the past few months and is holding up just fine.
The candy bar wraps are 1 1/4" x 3. I sponged each edge. The cake base is an actual plastic cake base from Wilton. You can buy circles in the sizes I needed but it was expensive to do it that way and since I was covering the edge I didn't care that the edge would not be perfect. I purchased a one foot square one inch thick. I used the circle scissor cutter to cut out the desired sized circle template - 4", 5", 6". When you go to cut the styrofoam it is a messy job, probably best done outside. I used the big Stampin' Up! scissors cut the foam just fine. After I started assembling the cake I found I wanted a cover for the foam circle and ended up using my circle patterns. Next time I will plan accordingly. I would have chosen crumb cake anyway for this cake.
To place the candy around the circle edge I butted their edge up against something real straight, then ran sticky strip across the back of them. I then laid this out along the edge of the circle. Each circle base is heavily adhered with sticky strip. This thing actually did survive the 100 degree heat a coupla times.
