Faux (Antique) Lace

I read about this faux (antique) lace technique recently in a scrapbooking magazine. I would love to say which one, but I read so many so frequently I could not be specific. If you know which one, please let me know. Anyway, I read about the technique, and I thought it sounded labor intensive, but one of those - I have to try it now things. Well, I am glad I tried it now, but it did not take long at all. I could have done this for an upcoming swap after all. Aarrgh! Too bad I already stamped all 16 cards I needed for the swap. Ah well, it is done and checked off list. Maybe next swap.

Back to the how to's: I started with a 2" x 12" length of DSP (designer series paper). I could have used a smaller width but 2" is easier to work with, and I might have been able to cut it in half if I had needed another length. I took the guard off of a corner rounder and punched all along one edge. Tip: to make the scallop edge look nice (I learned this at SU! Convention last summer) make sure that the smile bites in the corner. Meaning, make sure that just the curves of the scallops overlap, then punch. Next: I ran the DSP through the crimper. Then I sanded the tops of the crimps. I suppose I could have sponged up the paper also, but I thought that it needed some white showing to brighten it up.

To wrap around the corner of the accent piece I actually had to splice paper together. Turns out you can only do so much to DSP before it tears. Originally I tried to turn it at the corner. Bam! Rip! So I spliced scallops to turn the corner and taped them together. Turns out it didn't matter anyway. I liked the scallop circle accent covering the corner.

For the doodle on the white with pink ink piece, I just used the fine tip of a SU! marker. The fine tips have such a sharp point they work good for writing/doodling.

Now who to send this cute card to? I know - myself! giggles...
